Day 3 - Southern Hospitality

It was a very long day

After a lovely welcome and dinner from our hosts in DC we hit the road bright (actually dark) and early. We drove for a bit and stopped in the Southern part of Virginia for breakfast and to refill the tank. After meeting exceedingly nice people with clearly marked accents we continued on our way finally saying goodbye to the East Coast by leaving I-95 and adopting I-85 to take us our first steps west. We had decided to try to get past Atlanta and instead to stop in Montgomery, Alabama.

About three hours after breakfast Abby went to look for her purse...only to realize after a thorough inspection of the car, it was still sitting at our breakfast table in Virginia. Fortunately we called the Panera where we left it and the kind employees were willing to ship it to our next stop in New Orleans, thus saving us a 6 hour setback.

Our next mistake was not knowing that Alabama is in Central time.
Pro tip: Always check the time zones, and never believe Google could be wrong.
What we expected to be just another hour and a half from Atlanta to Montgomery became a three hour drive as we crossed over into Alabama and the clock turned back.

We did however on this stretch of driving hit our first 1,000 miles!!!! and then some :)

Then, it turned out the Website only gave us a partial street name for our hotel and left us off in the middle of a highway. All in all smart phones saved the day, getting us safely to the hotel, to dinner and back in one mostly sane piece.

...to top it all off, I left my medicine in DC so now Abby's aunt and uncle have to ship those to me too!
