Day 6 - If you're all about the destination, take a flight

Today started out early, as we said a fond goodbye to New Orleans and headed for the vast and daunting expanse that is Texas. A little way out of the city we were able to stop and continue what has become too much of a tradition: eating a huge, unhealthy breakfast, this time at a gas station diner (where we also filled up the car - this will be important later).

After entering Texas and driving a few hours on its not very different from anywhere else roads, we stopped in Houston for lunch. Since we were due to arrive early to Austin that evening, we took our time wandering around downtown, which was very dead on a Sunday afternoon.

Back in the car after lunch, we were cruising along halfway between Houston and Austin when I felt the car cease accelerating. I very quickly determined the cause of this problem - we forgot to put gas in the car all afternoon, and I hadn't noticed. This is not a good idea, in case you were wondering. Since we were in the middle of nowhere by the side of the interstate, and the next gas station was not for 8 miles, we had no choice but to call AAA and wait it out. Two hours later, we were rescued. After filling the car up completely, we headed on our merry way. Of course, this put us hours behind on our arrival in Austin. My uncle and aunt were gracious enough to save us dinner, which we ate happily before heading to my other aunt's house for some rest.

Lessons learned so far:
1. Always check for your purse.
2. Always make sure the arrow points closer to F than to E.
3. Always check the bathroom for items left behind before leaving anywhere.
